So, It Was A Land? Made Of Feathers?

Me: ...and I have a lot of work to finish before the end of school, but tomorrow is Field Day so I'll be able to get a lot done.
Mark: Field Day? Is that like a field trip?
Me: No, the kids play kickball and have relay races and stuff like that.
Mark: So they're just outside all day, jumping around and shit?
Me: Pretty much. Didn't your elementary school have something like that?
Mark: No, I don't think so.
Me: Oh, mine did. It was the best. It was called the Goofy Olympics, and it was held at this big grassy area down the road from the school called Featherland.
Mark: ...
Me: I just heard myself say it. Where the hell did I grow up?

Hi there,

You don't know me, but I actually had a conversation with my fiance (his name is Mark!) about Field Day the other day. I had to explain it to him too... I'm a teacher too, and if I hadn't moved to Denver, I would have gone to Boston. I, too, have an addiction to products. I'm a sucker for packaging... And although I'm not familiar with Rachael's cupcake tent, I am aware of her "tinfoil tent!"

I'm a new blogger...would you mind if I linked to your blog on my page?
take care!

I always hated Field Day. Sure, in theory it was supposed to be fun, but even as a kid, I was hopelessly uncoordinated and lacking in athletic prowess, so everyone else collected red and blue ribbons all day, while I went home with a white one that said "Participant." Whoo.

DITTO Stefanie!!!

Don't feel bad about featherland. The town my mom grew up in, in southern Indiana is called Versailles. And they pronounce all of the letters. Nope, it's not "ver-sai", it's ver-say-ull-es.

Stefanie,

For myself, add to that the fact that I am allergic to grass and I'd end up covered in hives on field day, because I was forced to participate.

I hated it.

Field Day rocked! That was seriously the best day of school. I think I liked it most because I was better than all the boys:-)

DTL, hello, welcome, and of course! I look forward to checking out your blog as well.

Stef, MJ and LC, because of you guys, I just went and rescued a few of my miserable looking kids and brought them inside to the AC to draw. They seemed much happier.

Single Jen, the cheese stands alone, my friend... although I guess did say I liked Field Day. So the cheese stands, um, with me.

Hey Mark,

You nervous that DFL has more in common with Red than you????

Yeah, Field Day sounds like something I would TOTALLY have hated. Unless it was cool to pick a shady spot under a tree and read.

Some people did not have field day? I am seriously schocked. I hated field day, so I'm not sure why I care. But I went to three different elementary schools in three different states, and all of them had field days.
