If you're reading this (which you are) please leave a comment and tell me about a few of your favorite albums (or what you're enjoying a lot right now, if trying to come up with all-time favorites is enough to make your head explode). I'm trying to branch out from listening to my iPod on random all the time. Plus, someone pointed out that half the songs on my beloved Wigglemix are apparently from car commercials, so maybe I'm not getting my inspiration from the best sources. I love it anyway, but I want to know what you guys are listening to and loving or have listened to and loved. Genre doesn't really matter, but I'm kinda looking for stuff that holds up now... frex, I loved Flood by TMBG back in the day, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to someone today.
Here are a few of mine, not that you asked:
Ben Folds' first self-titled album (then Whatever and Ever Amen and Rockin' the Suburbs)
Beatles, especially Revolver, Abbey Road, and Let it Be
Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink by Tori Amos (I loved her when I was a wee lass, but these albums probably hold up)
Monster by R.E.M.
Fumbling Toward Ecstasy by Sarah McLachlan
More Adventurous by Rilo Kiley
Rabbit Fur Coat by Jenny Lewis

Hi Red, have you tried Metric? They definitely have a following here in Toronto; their latest album, Live it Out, has some great tracks.
Need I tell you that "This is why I'm hot" is the wiggliest song evah? Also the Beyonce one that goes "to the left" cause it tells you how to dance right in the song.
I don't do albums.
The Garden State soundtrack (you could also use that as a jumping point for any of the bands on the album)

Do you have enough Guster in your life? Because Keep it Together and Ganging Up on the Sun, their last two albums, are both excellent.
You've already got my favorite album listed (Sarah McLachlan is amazing). I see that the Garden State soundtrack has also been mentioned. Other favorites include anything by Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Snow Patrol, the Great Expectations soundtrack and the first VAST album.
Pearl Jam, obviously.
And the new albums by Muse, The Shins, Anberlin, maybe even Snow Patrol.
And of course, Warrant.

If you like the Garden State soundtrack, you should try The Decemberists. If any of their songs were on that soundtrack, they would fit right in -- same vein.
I recommend John Mayer's Continuum , The Killers' new album, Dave Matthews Stand Up, "Dirty Dancing Havana Nights" Soundtrack is very cool, and for songs I can't stop dancing to Fergie's G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S song or the Fratellis Flathead song. Oh and there's always The Buena Vista Social Club if you're looking for something vastly different and the soundtrack to "The Dancer Upstairs" is quite fabulous.
Neva Dinova - "Neva Dinova" (self titled). I also highly recommend the album they put together with Bright Eyes, "One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels."

Libragirl/Jaek, it's funny you said that because while I like the Garden State soundtrack, I HATED the movie. It had lots of potential but was way too self-consciously hip and pretentious. It's taken several Scrubs episode to get me back on board with Zach Braff.
Also, everyone I know disagrees with me on this.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, loved the soundtrack hated the movie.

Oh Red, you've gotta get AMY WINEHOUSE. A brit w/ a drinking problem who sound is a little bit pop, blues, Sinatra, and rocker chick all in one. Of course the new JT album rocks too! I'm sure you have that.
I'm with you though. My Ipod get so tired of random. Also, I have a hard time listening to a whole song in its entirety!

You should check out kexp.org It is a radio station out of Seattle that is non-profit, listener powered. You can stream live from your computer and they play a really interesting mix of new bands. Plus from their website you can download podcasts and live studio sessions with bands so you can check them out
